As we step into 2025, UV4Good is humbled to reflect on a remarkable milestone from last month. We were featured in the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) press release, Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge is Changing Lives: Winners Reflections. This recognition highlighted the transformative impact of last year’s Seeding The Future Challenge winners, and we are beyond grateful to have been part of this extraordinary initiative.
A Game-Changing Moment for UV4Good
In 2023, UV4Good was honored to receive a Seed Grant for our innovative portable UVC LED-based water disinfection systems designed for emergency and field use. This solution addresses critical water safety challenges by providing clean drinking water to underserved regions, including areas deeply affected by conflict, such as Ukraine. Winning this grant validated our commitment to innovation and provided essential funding to further our mission of improving access to safe drinking water worldwide.
As Tatiana Koutchma, our CEO and Co-founder, expressed, “Being recognized by Seeding The Future validates our commitment to innovation in addressing global water crises. This grant has given us the means to transform our vision into actionable solutions, bringing safe drinking water to communities in desperate need.”
Seeding The Future Challenge: A Platform for Change
Hosted by the IFT and funded by the Seeding The Future Foundation, the 2023 Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge attracted over 900 submissions from 78 countries. From these, 13 winners—spanning Seed Grants, Growth Grants, and Grand Prizes—were selected based on their potential to address pressing global food system challenges.
Each of the winners showcased groundbreaking innovations aimed at creating a more sustainable and equitable future. UV4Good’s contribution, focused on water safety and accessibility, fits into a broader ecosystem of solutions tackling issues like malnutrition, regenerative agriculture, and climate resilience.
The Journey Ahead
The Seed Grant has been a transformative milestone for UV4Good. It has enabled us to continue building and donating water treatment units to underserved regions while creating an inventory for emergency deployment. Moreover, this recognition has amplified our reach and connected us with a network of like-minded innovators dedicated to global change.
As applications for the 2024 Challenge remain open, we encourage other innovators and changemakers to seize this incredible opportunity. The initiative not only provides funding but also fosters collaboration, visibility, and access to a global innovation network—key drivers for creating a lasting impact.
Gratitude and Reflection
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Seeding The Future Foundation and IFT for their support and belief in our vision. This feature in the IFT press release reminds us of the power of collective effort and innovation in addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
